Inaugural New England Nationals Winner Allen Johnson Looking for Repeat in 2016

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (June 1, 2016) – Marathon Petroleum/J&J Racing Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson will forever be inked in the history books as the first Pro Stock driver to win at the inaugural NHRA New England Nationals. He’s ready to take home the win with some serious momentum after three consecutive semifinal round appearances leading up to this weekend’s race.

The Fourth annual NHRA New England Nationals marks a very strenuous schedule of four races in a row starting at New England Dragway. The Marathon Petroleum team will hit the road the entire month of June.

“You just gotta make sure the engines are fresh and ready to go,” said Johnson. “We had a good week on the dyno and we did some testing at Rockingham yesterday so that’s the first thing to do in order to be successful in the next four races. We’ve got a little bit of momentum and I love the New England area. I won the inaugural race and I’d like to repeat that this weekend.”

With numerous points up for grabs during the month of June, Johnson knows qualifying points and going rounds is necessary.

“Round wins are really important right now,” he said. “This is a very important stretch and my hopes are that after this stretch, we’ll be in the No. 3 spot.”

“We’re working on different combinations and we’ve got a long term plan for our team but our team takes it one round at a time and that’ll set us up for the Western Swing and beyond.”

Qualifying for the Fourth annual NHRA New England Nationals begins on Friday, June 3rd with two qualifying sessions at 4:30 and 7:00 p.m. Two more qualifying sessions will be on Saturday, June 4th at 1:30 and 4:00 p.m. Eliminations will be on Sunday, June 5th starting at 11:00 am with Top Fuel.
