Giovanni Scelzi Scores Podium Result in Nonwing Feature at Lemoore

Inside Line Promotions – LEMOORE, Calif. (Oct. 5, 2014) – Giovanni Scelzi recorded his 16th podium finish of the season last Friday at Lemoore Raceway.

Scelzi had a standout performance to finish third in the nonwing micro sprint portion of the night.

“We ran pretty good in the nonwing car,” he said. “We were really fast. We had the car rolling really well.”

Scelzi qualified second quickest and he powered from fourth to second place in his heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the front row of the 30-lap main event.

“The car was fast,” he said. “The track was hooked up, one lane. It was hard to pass people. I made some driver errors early in the race.”

After falling to sixth in the opening handful of laps, Scelzi maneuvered back into the top five on Lap 6. He advanced to fourth place on Lap 14 and into third on Lap 20.

“I’m very happy with that result,” he said.

Scelzi also competed in the winged micro sprint class, which he kicked off by qualifying fifth quickest. However, he fought a tight race car in the heat race to end fifth. That lined him up on the inside of the fifth row for the main event.

Scelzi battled inside the top 10 for the first half of the race and he was running eighth at the midpoint of the race.

“I ended up pulling in because the chain was too loose,” he said. “It could strip the sprocket and chip teeth off the gear. I decided to make the smart decision to pull into the pits early.”

Scelzi ended with a 16th-place result after he exited the track on Lap 19.

He will return to nonwing micro sprint competition on Oct. 24-25 at Delta Speedway in Stockton, Calif., for the Turkey Bowl.
