Anderson Elevated by Series of Smooth Qualifying Passes at Maple Grove Raceway

Reading, Pa., October 4, 2014 – Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro driver Greg Anderson made four smooth passes down the racetrack at Maple Grove Raceway during qualifying and is making his plan of attack for Sunday at the 30th annual NHRA Nationals. Two-time Reading winner Anderson qualified in the No. 10 spot and will race Jeg Coughlin in the first round of eliminations.

The first day of qualifying kicked off with a 6.558-second pass at 210.77 mph that moved Anderson right into the top half of the field in the No. 5 spot. The driver of the white Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro made a nice, clean run and followed up in the later session with more of the same. His 6.559 at 210.93 showed consistency and stability, and Anderson and his KB Racing team arose on Saturday with a determined edge that was quickly rewarded with an even better 6.542, 211.26.

They weren’t quite finished, however, and the Rob Downing-tuned Summit Racing Camaro blasted down the racetrack in the final session of qualifying at ‘The Grove’ to light the scoreboard with a stout 6.539 at 212.49.

“We went down the track smoothly every pass,” said Anderson. “The elapsed time isn’t as quick as we need it to be, and we need to make some changes for tomorrow – but the good news is that the Summit Racing Camaro is safe. It’s getting down the racetrack consistently, and we just have to keep uncovering stones. We have another shot tomorrow, and the plan is to help our teammate Jason Line win the championship.”

The weather and racing surface have played a large role this weekend at Maple Grove Raceway, and the cool temperatures are some of the most comfortable the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series has seen this season, and they are certainly conducive to quick passes for the factory hot rods. Historically, the Reading-area racetrack has been quick. Sunday should follow suit as the weather is predicted to be the coolest it has been all weekend.

“It’s a very good thing that we’ve been able to get down the racetrack smoothly all weekend long,” said Anderson. “When the track and weather get cold, it’s difficult to make good, clean runs – but my car is already doing that. It’s a confidence builder, and there is a good chance that the guy in the other lane may not do that. We’ll put our heads together tonight and keep digging, and we’ll find the performance. It’ll be tricky tomorrow, but we seem to have a handle on the toughest part of the situation. Now we just need to make it fast.”
