Line lays the groundwork on first day of qualifying at Carolina Nationals

Concord, N.C., September 12, 2014 – NHRA’s Countdown to the Championship is off to a solid start for Pro Stock driver and incoming points leader Jason Line, and with the first day of qualifying in the books, the driver of the blue Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro is eager to build upon the groundwork and put his best foot forward before final eliminations for the NHRA Carolina Nationals begin.

Line, of nearby Mooresville, N.C., came to the starting line for the first round of qualifying and raced down the track to a 6.618-second pass at 209.56 mph, one of the top three speeds of the session. Sitting seventh, Line and the KB Racing team were anxious to get back on the track as they refined their tune up, and they were rewarded in the later session with an improved 6.607 at 209.59 that moved Line up to fourth in the line-up.

Although he moved up significantly in the qualifying order, Line wasn’t satisfied. Teammate Greg Anderson matched Line’s time in the first session with an identical 6.618 at the second-fastest speed, 209.72 mph, and then 6.631 at another big speed of 209.85. Anderson is No. 9.

“We had an okay day, but we’re definitely looking forward to tomorrow,” said Line, who has qualified third or better in each of the most recent five races. Twice he has been No. 1, including two weeks ago at the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals when he ran the table and was the quickest on each of the three days of qualifying.

“We definitely underestimated the racetrack here today, that’s for sure. It was better than we thought it was, but that’s okay – it gives us a good starting point,” said Line. “I’m excited for tomorrow, and tonight I’m going to go home, visit with my parents who are here from Minnesota, and get a good night’s sleep. Tomorrow should be good.”
